Vocab/Spelling Words:

      1.  catastrophe- sudden disaster or misfortune.  Hurricane Katrina caused a catastrophe   in New Orleans.

2.  prevalent- widely accepted.  The prevalent belief among doctors is that smoking is bad for you.

3.  turmoil- uproar; confusion.  There is a lot of turmoil in Times Square on New Year's Eve. 

4.  tethered-fastened with a rope or chain. The dog was tethered to the pole.      

5.  bravado- pretended courage.  Showing a lot of bravadothe scared man went on Space Mountain.

6.  pinnacle- a high point or peak. The pinnacle of the mountain is covered in snow.

7.  robust -strong and full of energy. Most teachers are robust in September.

8. flourishing-growing or developing successfully; doing very well.  Atlanta is a flourishing city.

9.  anguished- having or showing extreme mental or physical suffering. The anguished Mr. Curtin took a nice vacation to Namibia, Malawi, and Botswana.

10. avert- to keep from happening; to prevent. War was averted by the diplomats.
