CYO Athletic Basketball League

 CYO 3rd - 8th Grade Basketball Overview
 

In addition to the clinic sponsored by the St. John's Sports Association for kids in grades K - 2,  our basketball program plays in the CYO Athletic Basketball league which is sponsored by the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry,  under the the Archdiocese of Newark. 

Below are the grade brackets and competition structure for the CYO Athletic Basketball League:

    3rd & 4th grade -  (up to four divisions)
     - A division (most competitive)
     - B division
     - C division
     - D division

    5th & 5thth grade -  (up to four divisions)
     - A division (most competitive)
     - B division
     - C division
     - D division

    7th & 8th grade -  (up to four divisions)
     - A division (most competitive)
     - B division
     - C division
     - D division

Please note the following:

1. Each bracket includes a boys and a girls division -  *there are NO co-ed teams.*

2. Some teams may be mixed with both grades i.e. a 5/6 boys B division team may have both 5th graders and 6th graders on the same team. Whereas other teams may be all 5th, or all 6th grade players.  *Typically, St. John's has teams that are all one grade, unless we do not have enough players to do so.

3. All schools that participate in this league must follow the Archdiocesan Athletics Handbook. 

4. There are playoffs and championship games for each division, as well as an All Star game.

5. Typically, most teams play approximately 14 – 20 games per season. 

6. Games have four quarters, seven minutes per quarter.
