The foundation of SJA’s math curriculum and instruction is the mastering of computational skills while developing vital critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. At SJA, our math teachers reach all students through various instructional approaches, included but not limited to: whole class instruction, collaborative learning, learning center environments, small group instruction, and one-on-one instruction.

Assessments are varied and include the Map Assessments, traditional assessments (both formative and summative), and performance tasks that focus on higher order thinking. The varied assessments create a challenging, engaging mathematics program that allows the teacher to make adjustments to instructional methods in order to individualize instruction. Students have the opportunity to participate in Algebra at the eighth-grade level.
